On the Subtitle Translation of English Documentaries from the Perspective of Eco-translatology: A Case Study of China: Time of Xi

Abstract: From the perspective of eco-translatology put forward by Prof. Hu Gengshen, the thesis analyzes the choices made by translators to adapt the translational eco-environment. Eco-translatology emphasizes the interactive choice of translators and translation ecological environment, and from this perspective explains the nature, process, standards, principles and translation methodology of translation. This article briefly describes the theoretical basis of eco-translatology, and takes China: Time of Xi documentary subtitle translation as an example. It startes from the language dimension, cultural dimension, and communication dimension, and focuses on the application of three-dimensional transformation in the context of actual translation. The process aims to explore the methods and techniques of translating documentary subtitles in the framework of eco-translatology, and to provide new ideas and inspiration for translators. After the case study, the conclusion of this paper is that translators should actively adapt to the “translating ecological environment” of documentary subtitle translation in translation activities and make “adaptive choices” on the basis of balancing the limitations of documentary translation. In this way, it is possible to make translations of documentary subtitles with a high degree of adaptability and to achieve the purpose of international propaganda and cultural exchange of documentaries.

摘 要：本文从胡庚申教授提出的生态翻译学视角出发，剖析翻译过程中译者为适应翻译生态环境而做出的选择。生态翻译学强调译者与翻译生态环境的互动选择，并从这一角度对翻译的本质、过程、标准、原则和翻译方法论做出解释。本文简述了生态翻译学的理论基础，并以《习近平治国方略：中国这五年》纪录片字幕翻译实例，从语言维度、文化维度、交际维度出发，重点阐述三维转换在实际翻译背景下的应用过程，旨在探索在生态翻译学框架中，纪录片字幕翻译的方法和技巧，并给广大翻译工作者提供新的思路和启示。通过分析真实案例，本文得出结论：译者在翻译活动中应该主动适应纪录片字幕翻译的“翻译生态环境”，并在平衡纪录片翻译制约的基础上作出“适应性选择”，这样才能做出适应选择程度高的纪录片字幕译文，实现纪录片的国际宣传与文化交流的目的。
