Abstract: This paper uses the method of narrative research to discuss two outstanding college English teachers' professional developments from the perspective of personal practical knowledge in a college in Nanjing. The research focuses on two aspects, which are namely the characteristics of personal practical knowledge construction and the factors contributing to the personal practical knowledge construction. By using the method of conduct interviews, the research draws the following conclusions: (1) The construction of two teachers' personal practical knowledge has the characteristics of being practical, reflective, interactive and autonomous. (2) The construction of excellent teachers' practical knowledge is influenced by individual factors such as their personalities and personal preferences. What’s more, they are influenced by the external factors such as the family environment, the background of their own education and help from others.

摘 要:本文采用叙事研究方法,从个人实践知识视角探讨了南京某校两位优秀高校英语教师的专业成长。研究问题集中在两点,即个人实践知识的构建特点及个人实践知识的构建受到哪些因素的影响。通过采用深入访谈的方式,研究得出以下结论:(1)两位教师个人实践知识的构建都呈现出实践性、反思性、互动性和自主性特征; (2)优秀教师个人实践知识的构建受到教师自身的性格特征、个人的喜好等个人因素影响,同时也受到教师的家庭和受教育背景,以及他人的督促帮助等外部因素的影响。

1.Introduction

At present, with the continuous development of China's higher education reform and the expansion of the scale of colleges,the team of English Teaching in Colleges is also constantly expanding, which has become an extremely large group in the education of colleges. In such a context,the research of teachers’ professional developments has become a hot research topic in the field of education,and more and more attention has been paid to the professional developments of English teachers in colleges. As an important factor in foreign language education, teachers are the key to the success of foreign language teaching reform. Especially with the development of the theories of social culture, the growth of teachers has been endowed with more and more social characteristics. In the professional developments of teachers, teachers' practical knowledge is an important part of teachers' professional qualities, and the research of practical knowledge is the breakthrough of the study of teachers' professional developments. Two excellent English teachers in a university are chosen as an example to do the narrative research through the way of making an in-depth interview with them. The interviews are conducted in three parts, which are respectively the background and environment of their teaching, their teaching practice, as well as their professional developments. Through this way, the purpose is hoped to be realized which is to truly reproduce their personal professional development from the narrative point of view. At the same time, the interviews of two teachers will be compared and summarized, looking forward to being able to find common points from the interviews of two teachers’ professional developments. Then the characteristics and influencing factors of College English teachers' professional growth will be found out. Finally, the conclusions of the study in order to explore the development path of College English teachers will be summed up, providing reference for other researchers or teachers.
