Abstract: The thirteenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China puts forward the strategy of strengthening the country tourism industry. The proportion of tourism economy in the national economy is increasing. Tourism is an important platform for cultural display and cultural dissemination, which creates objective conditions for the protection and the advancement of Chinese material cultural heritage and intangible cultural heritage. Therefore, translation studies on travel texts and tourist attractions practical translation are particularly important. This article takes tourism translations of scenic spots like the Great Wall and Mount Huang as the research objects. Under the guidance of functionalist translation theory, it uses the case analysis as the main research method and summarizes the current situation of the tourism translation through the analysis of the tourism text translation. In a word, this paper that estimates the prospects of China's foreign tourism translation is based on the current situation of China’s tourism English translation, combined with functionalist translation theory and translation cases, and gives some translations suggestions, looking forward to contributing to future related tourism translations.

摘要:我国中共“十三大”提出旅游强国战略,旅游业在国民经济中所占的比重也在不断增加。旅游是文化展示和文化传播的重要平台,它为中国物质文化遗产和非物质文化遗产的发扬光大创造了客观条件。因此,旅游文本和景点实际用语的翻译研究尤为重要。本文以长城、黄山等景点的旅游翻译为研究对象,在德国功能主义翻译理论的指导下,以举例分析为主要研究方法,通过对旅游文本翻译的分析总结出旅游翻译的难点和成因。总的来说,本课题根据中国目前旅游英语翻译的现状,结合功能主义翻译理论和翻译案例,预估中国对外旅游翻译的前景,并给出一些旅游翻译建议,希望能为今后的相关的旅游翻译起到指导作用。

Introduction

Tourism has become one of the world’s largest industries because of its characteristics of low investment, high returns, monopolization of resources, labor intensiveness, strong correlation, and no pollution. Accordingly, quite a few countries seize the opportunity to develop tourism, including China. China catches good conditions for tourism development, such as policy support, prolonged cultural heritage, and abundant tourism resources.

For the above reasons, China needs to promote foreign tourism for sustainable development and to speed up globalization process by improving the quality of tourism English. This paper is going to give the brief analysis on domestic tourist attractions translation study by picking some examples from translation text and attractions practical translation of famous scenic sites in China, combining with specific translation theory of functionalist. The author also finds out problems by interviewing and searching for related news. And this paper explores the features and typical errors of tourism translation, after that provides some suggestions to improve and innovate tourism translation.

1.1 Background of the Paper

Tourism revenue’s share takes up more and more proportions in economy in recent years. The data offered by TV news reveals that more and more foreigners travel to China just like a growing number of Chinese prefer to travel abroad. Tremendous tourist population demands professional and scenic spots’ translation. It is certainly evident that tourism translation in many attractions cannot keep pace with the times through my interviews. For another, those who travel abroad also need to learn tourism English well if they look forward to high quality travel. On account of this phenomenon, this paper emerges as the times require.

1.2 Purpose of the Paper

In order to better promote the development of China's foreign tourism, this topic will discuss the existing issues in China's current tourism translation by listing specific scenic spots translation. This paper briefly analyzes the overall outlook of China's tourism translation under the strategy of strengthening tourism industry, which includes practical problems and cases of reasonable translation, subsequently I’ll give some specific suggestions.
