  1. Introduction

Public signs play a more and more important role not only in a city's development, but also in China's image. Good translation of public signs may help build a good image of one city, in that way leaving a good impression to foreigners. Public signs translation is an important part of applied translation, in other words, which is also called practical translation or pragmatic translation.

With the development of tourism industry in China, a lot of fund has been invested by the local governments in order to create better environments of tourism attractions and facilities. At the same time, the civilization standard of an area can be reflected by the translation of tourism signs. A good international language environment is also necessary to build a city into a really international community. Moreover, the national image can be judged by a good C-E translation of tourism public signs. However, there are too many problems existing in the current C-E translation of tourism signs. Therefore, to improve the quality of C-E translation of tourism a sign is still an urgent task.

As there exists a lot of differences between Chinese and English, including language, thinking habits and so on. Many English versions don't give the original information. Translators are used to translating with Chinese thinking, which results in inaccuracy of translation and brings some mistakes. Some are word-for-word translation, as the sententiousness of English ignored by people without considering the underlying meaning of Chinese. On some occasion, neglecting the cultural differences between Chinese and English can produce confusing or trustless translations. As a result, we should make a study to explore the translational problems on it and how to seek for proper solutions.

  1. Literature Review

Because of the vigorous development of tourism industry, people pay more attention to the study of tourism translation, in which the translation of public signs in tourist attractions is especially important. In this paper, eco-translatology is another emphasis. Tourism translation will be analyzed from the perspective of eco-translatogy. In this section, the author is going to make a review about previous studies.

Shu Huijuan (2012) from Suzhou University analyzed the translation of public signs in Shanghai Expo from three dimensions of eco-translatology. [1] Tan Jing (2014) studied the public signs translation in tourist attractions of Chenzhou and made a comprehensive and systematic analysis from the perspective of eco-translatology in order to conclude new approaches and translating strategies of Chinese styles to translate public signs in tourist attractions.[2] Yang Lin(2012) from Xi’an International Studies University thought that translators are supposed to pay more attention to translational eco-environment and adjust their own adaption and selection activities, especially in linguistic, cultural and communicative dimensions of eco-translatology.[3] In 2014, Wang Wen investigated how to improve the standard of tourism translation and do some adaptive selection when promoting intercultural communication. In his paper, he also analyzed translational strategies to some cases from three dimensions of eco-translatology.[4] Zhou Hongxia and Kong Defei (2012) considered the bad influences to our country image, which were brought by translational mistakes of public signs and they thought the translators should translate from eco-translatology to reduce the mistranslation.[5] Chen Xueyi (2012) used the public signs in Nanjing as materials, which were combined with elements of the Youth Olympic Games, to explore the translingual and intercultural transformation activities from the perspective of eco-translatology.[6] Up to now, a lot of scholars have studied the public signs translation from the perspective of eco-tranlsalogy, so the author learn the feasibility of analyzing the translation of public signs in tourist attractions under the guidance of eco-tranlsalogy.
