Abstract: In the middle school’s English teaching process, teacher-student relations have been the most basic and most important interpersonal relationships. It is no exaggeration to say that compared with other disciplines, middle school’s English teaching are more dependent on such relationship, because of the communicative nature of linguistics. The thesis introduces the types and significance of teacher-student relationship, and then it analyzes the main factors which may affect such relations. Accordingly, several suggestions on how to improve middle school’s English teaching and how to enhance students' communicative competence are made by the author herself, although these suggestions have yet to be proved in practice.

摘要:在中学英语教学中,师生关系作为学校在开展教学过程中最基本也是最重要的人际关系贯穿于中学英语教学的始终。语言学科的交际性决定了师生关系在英语教学过程中的重要性。可以这样说,英语教学对于师生关系的需求度远胜于其他学科。本文首先介绍了师生关系的类型和重要性,并分析了影响中学师生关系的主要因素。与此同时,文章还就如何从师生关系入手提高中学英语教学质量,全面提升中学学生语言交际能力提出了个人的看法,尽管这些看法还有待于在实践中作进一步验证。

1.Introduction

Teacher-student relationship is the most important, basic and complex interpersonal relationship in teaching process. And it also reflects social, political, economical and moral relationships between teachers and students. Moreover, under different social forms and different national cultures, teacher-student relationship may present in a different way. Generally speaking, such a relationship represents the most fundamental and essential interpersonal relationship in English teaching process. This relationship guarantees a process where the teacher and students could communicate with each other harmoniously, and it also contributes significantly to the smooth functioning of the English teaching progress.

Classically, the teacher-student relationship includes organizational and emotional relationship, normal and informal relationship and so on. It is such a complicated one that has a great influence on the educational activity and result. As we all know, this kind of relationship also has a great influence on students' physical and mental development deeply. A friendly and harmonious teacher-student relationship is the key to produce good educational effect. In other words, if a teacher knows how to get along well with his students, how to meet students' needs, and how to guide them to fulfill teacher’s requests in English teaching process, a kind of new interpersonal relationship will be built up. Besides, teachers and students will admit each other, respect each other, trust each other, and fully understand each other.
