Abstract: As a kind of cultural carrier of mass media, English songs are very popular among Chinese. In China, in the field of translation, the translation of English lyrics has not been paid adequate attention. What’s more, numerous lyrics are lack of theoretical guidance. Therefore, lots of lyrics translations are devoid of beauty or not singable. In view of this, this paper attempts to combine the theory of aesthetics with lyrics translation, and to apply the theory of translation aesthetics to conduct the practice of translation, which can make lyrics translation tailored to the characteristics of songs and make lyrics translation singable.

摘要：英文歌曲是大众传播媒介的文化载体之一，广受中国听众的欢迎，而将翻译与美学结合起来，也是近年来翻译领域的研究方向之一。而歌词翻译，作为翻译研究方向之一，在国内一直没有获得足够的关注和重视。因为缺少系统的理论作为指导，许多歌词的翻译成品缺乏翻译美感，或者是不适合于歌曲的歌唱。考虑到这些因素，本篇论文试图把美学理论和歌词翻译结合起来，把翻译美学理论作为歌词翻译实践的指导，让译文既能够体现翻译之美，又能体现歌曲特征，适合歌唱。

1. Introduction

As a powerful cultural carrier of the mass media, English songs are popular with the Chinese public; however, the majority of Chinese audiences are used to using English lyrics rather than the lyrics of the Chinese translation. The translation of lyrics in English songs has become one of the most valuable exploration in the field of translation. From the current research status quo, in particular the perspective of translation aesthetics, there is little research on the actual analysis of English songs. In the paper "song translation", Hu Fenghua first proposed "song translation". He said that the song translation is not a scientific name; the name can only be regarded as commonly known, because the song is established, not able to be translated. Therefore, the study of English songs generally points to the lyrics. When the translator interprets the lyrics, it is necessary to utilize the various skills such as free translation, borrowing and substitution, but also to consider the multi-religious, folk and other cross-cultural factors as far as possible; those are the reasons why the translation is the same as the aesthetic effect of original lyrics.

As a unique kind of arts, music is almost at all the aspects of our daily life. For many people in totally different cultures, music plays an extraordinary role in their lives. Music is in every process of social development. Music consists of a number of goals and performance, from aesthetics, ritual or religious goals, even as an entertainment tool for the market.
