Changes of English Expressions under the Influence of New Media

Abstract: With the development of human civilization, the media are also in constant change. Medium changes bring new English expression, and each phase of the English expression has its special external form and internal characteristics. Based on the theory of communication, this paper studies the changes of the English expression on the boundary of the appearance of new media. This paper first combs the changes of the English expression before the appearance of new media. Then, a systematic analysis of the characteristics of the numerous and complicated English expression under new media is made. Different from the English expressions under the traditional media, the ones under new media possesses the characteristics of symbolization, modelization, fragmentation, unstandardization and facetiousness. Finally, this paper analyses the influence of expression changes under new media on human society.

摘 要：随着人类文明的发展，媒介也处在不断的变革当中。媒介的变革带来新的英文表达方式，每一个阶段的英文表达方式都有着特有的外在形式和内在特点。本文首先梳理了新媒介出现之前英文表达方式的的特点。然后对新媒介下纷繁的英文表达方式的特点进行系统的分析。与传统媒介下的英文表达方式不同，新媒介下英文表达方式拥有具象化、模式化、碎片化、去规范化和幽默化的特点。最后，本文分析了新媒介下表达方式的改变对人类社会带来的各种影响。

1. Introduction

Expression is an important behavior in human communication activity, and also an important way of the inheritance and development of human civilization. The continuous development of media provides new experience of expression for human. The emergence of the character not only help people communicate face to face, but also can help them talk to others through letters. The emergence of electronic analog signals make oral expression come true between people who are far away from each other. In each media era, the expression of human shows different characteristics with the emergence of different media. Stepping into the new media era, people's expressing space is expanded by the new media experience. People tend to use text instead of letters, and use twitter instead of keeping a diary. The expression activity of human is transferring to the new media field. Not only the transformation of the media, also the means of expression is also changing. To this end, this paper will, from the perspective of how come the changes of expression under new media, comb and conclude the expression evolution and its characteristics under the traditional media era. Again from the cause of traditional expression changes under new media revolution, summarize the characteristics of the expression under new media era. In the final analysis, states the influences of expression changes under new media on the development of human society.

Expression under mew media era is different from the one under traditional media era, therefore the further systematic research is vitally important for its theoretical value and practical significance. Expression is an important way of the inheritance and development of human civilization, so the study of the evolution of the expression can clarify important clues to the development of human civilization. This article summarizes the characteristic of expression in chronological order, reveals the development course of human civilization, analyses and interprets the impact of new media changes on English expression.
