Experimental Study on Co-combustion of Coal with Biomass

Abstract: In the current energy system, renewable energy is playing an increasingly important role. As a part of renewable energy, biomass resources have many advantages compared with other energy sources. There are many ways to utilize biomass resources, and the co-combustion of biomass and coal for electricity generation is a new way of thinking. In this co-combustion process, how to choose the appropriate proportion of biomass and temperature to make the best combustion efficiency and the least pollution emissions rate is an urgent problem to be solved.The above problems have been studied in the experiment. I made the data collection and analysis of the coal combustion and biomass combustion. And I made experiments in different biomass proportions and different temperatures to figure out the best condition which has the minimum pollution emission rate. In addition, I Selected bauxite and quartz sand as the burning bed material to study the influence which the different bed material have on the biomass burning slagging. Through the experiment, it was found that the increase of biomass could promote the release of SO2, and the amount of NO decreased with the increase of the proportion of biomass. The above phenomena may be related to the element contents of biomass and coal. And with the increase of temperature, the released SO2 will increase, and it will result in a decrease in the amount of NO released. Comparing bauxite with quartz sand, high aluminum bauxite is less residue. The reason is that the quartz sand will produce low melting compounds on the surface which will promote slagging.
